The national exposure was great, but it was not doing much for my efforts to find new consulting clients, which left me in the position of being unhireable. Instead of abandoning the blog, and going out to get a real job, I doubled down, and decided to build a Sarasota centered web property so that I could start leveraging that online clout to empower my local community.
Sarasota Underground is the beginning of our efforts to do just that.
We are building an open source media company that is designed to empower area creatives, and drive local commerce.
Its a blend of…
Small business networking
Word of mouth marketing.
Were going to help drive local commerce, while encouraging more engagement on important civiv issues.
We understand that Sarasota is special for some very specific reason, and we want to make sure we don’t lose sight of that, but we also understand the need to amplify the voice of area young professionals, present the Sarasota story in a perspective the makes sense to a more diverse demographic, and show younger voters how easy it is for them to get involved in shaping the future of this city we all love.
We think it’s time for a new generation of movers and shakers to come together to make a real difference in Sarasota…. Because this shit isn’t just going to fix itself.
