YPG Volunteer Event: All Faith’s Food Bank “Summer 2016 Back-Packing”
The Back-Pack program provides kid-friendly, nutritious food to children to take home over the summer when they don’t have access to meals at school. There are a variety of volunteer roles at each pack including: set-up and restocking of food cases, packing items into bags, and counting and placing of the bags into distribution containers. The ability to lift up to 25 lbs. is required for the restock role. Please check in at the front desk upon arrival (do not report to the warehouse)
ALL VOLUNTEERS–Please contact YPG Volunteer Chair, Amber Thornhill to confirm attendance: samberthornhill@gmail.com or (941) 462.8268
Volunteers must:
• Wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing, and bring a bottle of water to drink
• Volunteers will: Fill bags with kid-friendly food that will be given to children over the summer so they don’t go hungry. Sorting donated food in the 20,000 square foot warehouse.
Definition of job duties:
• Sort non-perishable food items: This includes checking food safety of items that have been donated through a food drive, from a grocer, or through a food distributor. Volunteers will be checking for secure packages, food quality dates, and sorting with like items (all the beans in one bin, all the macaroni products to another bin, etc.).
• Pack non-perishable food for emergency food relief: This is an assembly-line process where we will pack bags or boxes of food for use in one of our distribution streams; most often distributed through our Mobile Pantry Program, but sometimes used as emergency food distribution.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a two-part volunteer series with All Faiths. The second event will be on August 27th.
