Lunch & Learn – Deb Shuck, from Dis-abilty to Dif-ability & the Power of…

Deb Shuck understood from an early age, that she was meant be an advocate. Born with Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD), Deborah grew up wearing an above the knee prosthesis. Despite wearing this prosthesis all her life, she has never let that slow her down. From scuba diving to snow skiing to flying a glider she has met life head on. Her passion is to help educate and raise awareness of issues affecting people with disabilities. Your “Dis-abilty” is often a “Dif-ability” where the way you approach life and tasks is a genuine asset and benefit to organizations and individuals. Deborah is proud to share her experience and knowledge, in the hope that others may understand that a disability can open up a world of possibilities.
Deborah says that she owes a fearless passion to her parents who instilled in her a, “Never take No for an answer attitude.” Deb is also an accomplished business woman took her extensive knowledge and purchased a Structural Steel Fabrication company focusing on commercial buildings. While owning this company she realized a need for an organization focusing on women in business. Deb created and became the founder and president of Women Owners of Florida, Inc. (WOoF) She is continuing to make a difference in her community by focusing on WOoF as a 501©(3) giving back to the community.

Mandatory Considerations before using Open Source Code

Presentation Summary: There is rarely a topic in business that can divide a crowd with as much passion and fury as a political debate. However, Open Source Code has that ability. Whether you’re a software developer, a business owner or an acquirer of businesses, you need to understand Open Source Code. It’s too advantageous to ignore and too dangerous to underestimate.

This presentation will cover:

i) A general history and overview of Open Source Code,
ii) Its legal mechanics and potential legal pitfalls, and
iii) Prudent courses of action for:

Software Developers who are looking to avoid malpractice;
Business Owners who are looking to avoid unforeseen litigation; and
Business Acquirers who are looking to save money on the purchase price of acquisitions.
