2017 SRQHacks Hackathon

The Education Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc.’s #SRQHacks Hackathon exposes and equips 13-18 year old students with the skills and knowledge to pursue potential careers within the Computer Science and Business fields. Students connect with mentors from the Technology, Design and Business industries to brainstorm and create a mobile app and business plan that addresses a community issue.

Affordable housing, studio and performance spaces for artists in Sarasota will help to ensure the rich and diverse artistic community. ArtSpace is an exciting partner to make affordable housing a reality for Sarasota.

An ArtSpace community in Sarasota will provide much needed affordable housing studio and performance spaces to our creative residents. In 2014, Sarasota was identified as a viable art space location. Thanks to the help of our community $45,000 was raised towards funding a local art space project – now we are set to launch Phase II – the survey!

Sunset on the Bay

Join us to celebrate a Sarasota sunset on the Bay to welcome World Rowing Championship visitors from around the world!

As the World Rowing Championships come to a close, guests from around the world are invited to mingle with the Sarasota community to celebrate achievements, enjoy live music, take in a breathtaking sunset, and relax along Sarasota’s Bayfront.

The event will include entertainment by “Yesterdayze” and Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Mattison’s and Gold Coast Eagle Distributing, along with an assortment of food trucks, including Kona Ice, TCBY, Sofrito Mama’s Puerto Rican Soul Food, Jerry’s Hot Dogs, Chefs2U Restaurant & Catering, J and J Barbecue, and Uniquely Organics.

5th Annual Haunted Trails

Friday, October 20 7:30pm – 10:00pm
Saturday October 21, 7:30pm – 10:00pm

Three areas:
Trick or Treat Trail (Opens at 7:30pm) – A fun Halloween trail around Lake Ospreyeaturing many local businesses from the Osprey-Nokomis Chamber of Commerce decorating their booth and passing out candy for children or the more cautious Halloween enthusiasts. (Fun, kid friendly, not scary)

The Haunted Trail (Opens at 8:00pm) – A spooky, dark trail winding through the park filled with things that go bump and crunch through the night. Enter if you dare – there is no turning back. (Medium scary)

The Haunted Pavilion (Opens at 8:00pm) – If you make it to the end of the Haunted Trail, more horror awaits in the form of a Haunted House done by the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department. (Pretty scary. Not recommended for the faint of heart)

Additionally there will be hot dogs and drinks offered by local scout troop 77! As well as burgers and drinks offered by the Venice Sunrise Rotary Club!

Special thanks to our local Publix who will be providing s’mores, a pumpkin patch photo booth, and some sponsored snackage!

Crafts, fortune telling and more in the works!

(Please get your tickets early as there is a very limited parking capacity and once tickets are sold out – that’s it! We will be turning cars away at the entrance!)

InspireSarasota! Festival

Join the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County on November 4, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for the FREE arts and cultural InspireSarasota! Festival in downtown Sarasota at Five Points Park! The festival will feature performances by youth and cultural groups, booths with information from arts and cultural organizations on their upcoming seasons, a book give-a-way for children, food, and activities for all ages.

Sarasota Gives Back: Beach Clean Up

Don’t Trash, Where They Splash!

Join The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and its partners, as we take on cleaning Siesta Key Beach the day after Labor Day to help keep our oceans and beaches trash free!

7 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Beach Clean-Up Efforts (Siesta Key Beach)
8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – Breakfast Mixer (Sea Turtle Pavilion)

Organizations partnering with The Chamber include Visit Sarasota County, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources, the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce, Sarasota Young-Professionals Group, and Leadership of Sarasota County. Enjoy lite breakfast foods from Siesta Key Oyster Bar.

Trash Bags & Gloves will be provided.

Registration is strongly recommended as there is a safety waiver that must be signed prior to volunteering. Waivers will be able to be signed the day of.
