Press release –

Manatee Millennials to host MCon2017 Millennial Conference in March
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Feb. 22, 2017) – Manatee County Government’s team of Millennial employees, the Manatee Millennial Movement (M3), announced plans today to host MCon2017 Millennial Conference, March 26 – April 1.

The weeklong conference will be held at State College of Florida and will offer young professionals a chance to weigh in on topics important to them such as housing, networking, financial stability, entrepreneurship and how to take ownership in your community, among others.
MCon2017 will serve as a catalyst in connecting young professionals and college students to the local organizations that are trying to positively impact the future of Manatee County, said Ogden Clark, one of the event’s organizers. M3 has spent the last two years informing local young professionals and college students about civic engagement opportunities, focusing on affordable housing, leadership roles and overcoming millennial apathy. MCon2017 is the follow up to last year’s #4Progress Millennial Conference and the 2015 #iSeeManatee event that brought out hundreds of people to talk about what they would like to see Manatee County look like in the future.

“We want to develop our county’s future leaders and have them take ownership in their community,” Clark said. “We also hope to highlight some of the great activities, spots and groups that exist in our community.’”

“We’ve had an extremely positive response from our past events, but it is vital to keep the discussion going. Momentum continues to build,” said Robert Barto, event co-organizer. “We are taking community feedback and engaging across all generations to make this the best MCON yet.”

Registration for the conference is free and available online:

Souper Tuesday- Trudy & Stewart Moon, Building A Business & A Family Legacy

Making a family business a family legacy requires planning, preparation, and a thorough examination of the unique issues that encompasses the family’s goals and internal dynamics. Some successful planning strategies can be applied to nearly any situation and Trudy and Stewart Moon Jr. will reveal to us their insights and experiences as to what works and what doesn’t.

Can you give family members a reason to continue the family business before lack of interest dooms it to closure? Is there enough revenue potential to attract and retain family members that may want a different lifestyle? Can the business change or expand its geography to keep family members that may want or need to move to a different area? Have family members been given the freedom to try new services or products to make it their own before feeling alienated? If a business is to stay in the family, these issues and others need to be thought about carefully to preserve its positive legacy for the family.

The Moon family has enjoyed a long and active history of serving our community and forming rewarding connections with neighbors, customers and each other. They live, work and play here, so making Manatee County a better place for everyone is deeply important to them and is one of their highest priorities. They choose to support diverse organizations and causes as part of their community outreach and legacy for their family. Long-term team members are considered family with some employees who have been with them for more 20-30 years! Son, Stewart Moon Jr., is not only now a VP at the family owned business but on the Board of Directors for Realize Bradenton, part of the City of Bradenton Planning Commission, Leadership Manatee, and the Manatee Young Professionals.
